Dining Guide for the Santa Monica Area (310)

Hurry Curry: 2131 Sawtelle Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90025
310-473-1640

I first discovered this place about three years ago, and I never seem to get sick of it. Whenever you need a curry fix, this is the place to go. It's located in the Little Toyko area of West LA, where fobby Asians, mostly Japanese, hang out. However, on any given night, you can find people of all ethnicities flocking to this small restaurant.

The decor is simple yet stylish inside and atmosphere is very casual. In order to compensate for the small space of the restaurant, they've arranged the tables kind of close together, and you can literally see what all the other people at surrounding tables have ordered, but it's all good because I've discovered new entrees that way. I guess it's a way of "in-house" advertising! As soon as you are seated, you are immediately served a delicious Asian style house salad with a soy sauce based dressing and ice water, which is cool because at some restaurants, you have to ask for the water. The specialties of the house remain, no doubt, to be the yummy chicken cutlet curry ($7.95) and the scrumptious chicken pasta ($7.95). Literally every other person orders the chicken cutlet or the chicken pasta. They are really that good.

Portions here are pretty generous, but just a word to people who crave really spicy stuff: Nothing here is really that spicy. The curry is offered in mild, medium, or spicy, but the spicy isn't all that hot. What's also really good here is the tofu salad ($3.95). My personal favorite is the chicken pasta. It is by far, the tastiest entree on the menu, and consists of a large plate of spaghetti noodles with sauteed vegetables and pieces of delectably seasoned chicken pieces all with a side of this white mystery sauce that "makes" the dish. Be sure to go before 5pm or after 8pm, to avoid waiting in the long line that has people waiting even out the door. No reservations accepted. -to
