In Silicon Valley,
Palace BBQ is a buffet I can recommend to just about anybody who
loves BBQ beef. Other Korean BBQ restaraunts may offer the same
dishes, but you get about half the food at about twice the price.
In fact, a group of employees at Lockheed Martin have made it a
near weekly activity after I introduced them to this place. However
if you're watching your weight, an occasional visit would be more
suitable.
With a price
of around $10 for an all-you-can-eat assortment of spiced BBQ beef,
pork, chicken, and ribs, you can't go wrong. When you arrive, you
are taken to a table for six with a grill in the middle where you
cook your own raw meat. This may be an inconvenience if you don't
like cooking your own food, but it can be great for those who want
the meat done to your exact preference. Just make sure you bring
spare clothing; after lunch, people around you may smell the spices
from the BBQ smoke that your expensive dress shirt picked up while
cooking.
For those completely
averse to cooking their own food, there is also a standard buffet
area where you can get salad, fried rice, chow mein, eggrolls, tempura,
and a variety Korean side dishes. For dessert, there is a small
assortment of fruits.
But make no
mistake about it - folks don't come here just to eat eggrolls. If
you come hungry, you'll more than get your money's worth. For lunch,
you'll most likely want to set aside at least 1 hour for lunch at
11:30 AM when they open. Arrive 30 minutes later, and you'll be
waiting in a long line of hungry people. Dinner is also offered,
but costs twice as much as lunch, presumably with a greater variety
of foods offered. They don't open on Mondays. All in all, the food
is good and plentiful, the ambience is pleasant and clean, and the
service is friendly as long as you don't stay till the cows come
home. I would highly recommend. -lp
