SeaPreme
Seafood : 9545 Reseda Blvd #16,
Northridge, CA 91325
Tel: 818-885-8020
(As
taken from the L.A. Times on 10/6/2001)
Gumbo
is where you find it. In this case, across the street from the Northridge
post office, right next to a Korean Acupuncture parlor in one of
those long, narrow "shotgun"strip malls that extend deep
into a block. I'd never have noticed the place at all if its sign
weren't prominently visible from my podiatrist's parking lot. The
name of the place is SeaPreme Seafood, and its gumbo is just a Friday
and Saturday thing, I regret to say, because it's quite a good one...

Montien
Thai Resaurant: 8920 Reseda Blvd. Northridge, CA 91324
Tel: 818-772-1937
The Thai Restaurant is called Montien Thai. This was actually
the third time I've been here. The first time I took my ex, Jessica
and the second time I went with a close friend, Andre--both times
I haven't been disappointed. The ambience for this tiny place is
marvelous. From the outside it looks like a hole-in-the-wall, but
once inside you have this family atmosphere reception. The meals
aren't that huge, so if you're really hungry you might opt out for
a Todai or Sushi Factory (see above review)...but the way they serve
the food makes it worthwhile. This is definitely a place to take
a date if you're on a budget. The average meal price for dinner
ranges from $6-$9 depending
on whether or not you want noodles or a rice dish. This time
for lunch, all three of us had lunch specials. The average cost
was $4 a plate...not bad at all. Try the Thai Ice tea here (although
refills aren't free)...it tasted very authentic. There is a parking
lot behind the restaurant on Reseda. -gcc

India
Palace: 7231 Topanga Cyn., Blvd.
Canoga Park, CA 91303
Tel: 818-348-4454
For all of you
out there who are skeptical about eating Indian Food--Try this place.
You will change your mind. I went here a few times for lunch this
past month and enjoy the ambience and decor. The
lunch buffet is around $6-7, excluding drinks. There
is another Indian restaurant next door, but it's a little more ghettoe.
Your clothes smell like Indian after leaving that place. This one
is much better. Some of the dishes I recommend here are the Chicken
Tandori and the Saag (spinach). -gcc

Duk
Soo Jong,
located between Van Nuys Blvd. and Sherman Way, is one of the tastiest
Korean BBQ restaurants in the Valley. Although dinners start at
$15 per person (2 minimum), Duk Soo Jong has lunch specials (M-F)
that start at $7-$8. Duk Soo Jong has one of the best marinated
beef (bulgolgi) that I have ever had. Not only do you get delicious
meat to cook but you also get many side dishes as well such as kim-chi,
spiced cabbage, and so on. Duk Soo Jong is well worth the trip because
once you've had a taste, you'll be coming back for more (I guarantee
it). -kk

Versailles:
Encino -17410 Ventura Blvd
Los Angeles -10319 Venice Blvd
Los Angeles -1415 S La Cienega Blvd
This Cuban restaurant is one of my favorite places to bring newcomers
because I love watching their eyes goggle at the huge portions set
before them and laughing at their garlicky smell after leaving the
restaurant. Versailles offers authentic homestyle Cuban cuisine
at moderate prices. For two people you can expect to spend around
22-25 dollars here and most people usually bring home a little somethin
somethin for the next day cuz the portions are big. Don't be fooled
by the outside appearance of this restaurant which may deter people
who judge restaurants by the outer appearance. It might look a little
ghetto from the outside and may seem far from elegant inside, but
the walls inside are covered with famous celebs who frequent the
restaurant and framed clippings of newspaper articles raving about
the place. This restaurant has quite a fan base. HANDS DOWN, the
specialty of the place is the Roasted Garlic Chicken ($7.95). It
is worth the embarrassment of smelling like food for hours, even
days (if you dont take showers). And if you're planning on hitting
up a club or bar afterwards, ordering this is a great way to ward
off creepy people by just opening your mouth. =) It is essentially
half a roasted chicken smothered in that famous lemony, garlicky
sauce and topped with fresh onion slices. Even though the name says
garlic, it really is more lemony than garlicky. Every bite is a
treat for your taste buds. Also with the chicken, you get fried
bananas and on another plate, you get a mound of steamed rice and
a side of yummy black beans meant to be eaten together. All that
is considered one dish. There is literally no table space when two
people order this. The service is great and servers are quick to
refill empty glasses. Sometimes there's a wait and sometimes there
isn't. It all depends on what time you get there and what day of
the week it is. Weekends are busiest. Trust me, this place is memorable.
I know people who drive all the way across town, in rush hour traffic
just to come here. -tracey
